Religion, Motherland, Future of the Country, Love for the Neighbor, Justice, Fight against Evil and other “old-fashioned brands”have found reference in this performance, which is “New adventures of Mephistopheles in Armenia or a view at a puddle while being in it up to your neck”. The life story of the central character Hamazasp is banal enough. Everyone knows, if a poet sells his soul to the devil, it will harm both, the poet himself and the country he lives in!
The performance was seen by millions of spectaculars all over the world, it is quoted and became a cult performance. And if anything changed in our country for the better (as compared with the cold and dark winter of the ’93), it means “Khatabalada” contributed its mite.
